In the News: Anthony Allred of WFLA News Channel 8

We woke up bright and early to venture onto the rink at Astro Skate of Tarpon Springs this past Monday, November 20th.

Several of our newer “greenhorn” skaters hit the track with with WFLA News Channel 8’s Anthony “Double A” Allred as he interviewed our Secretary, Lindsay Crenshaw AKA “Coral Grief” about the ins-and-outs of roller derby. Our segments ranged from 6:30am-9am where we shared several basic skating drills and a little behind-the-scenes of what it takes to run a successful roller derby league.

Mr. Allred donned the traditional roller derby gear, including a helmet, safety pads and his own special extra: a rolling walker to help support him as he skated around the track with us.

We are so glad to have Mr. Allred as an honorary Pirate Bay Roller Derby member and now knight him as “Max Defender AA, #8!”

We had a great time having Mr. Allred skate (and fall) with us, and greatly appreciate the feature from WFLA News Channel 8.

First Friday 2017 Recap

As December approaches, we wanted to reflect on the amazing times we had sharing local roller derby with the Tarpon Springs community.

We had the privilege of a booth right on the corner of Tarpon Avenue and Hibiscus Street in Downtown Tarpon Springs, by the popular Replay Amusement Museum.

We met so many amazing Pinellas County locals who shared in the excitement of roller derby. We had a blast answering questions, petting adorable dogs, and learning about all of the other amazing local businesses that help our great city thrive.

Our goal for these events was to share local roller derby with the good people of Tarpon Springs. Having started from scratch in October of 2016, we wanted to let locals know that we were there. Several of our newer skaters met us at the event and came out to be a part of this great sport, and that makes this event more valuable than any treasure chest!

Thank you to the wonderful ladies and gentlemen of Tarpon Springs Merchants Association for a great year of First Fridays. We look forward to being involved again in 2018!
